Chilean pianist Michio nishihara Toro was bon in Concepcion in 1972. He began his musical training in Antofagasta, studing piano at the Regional Conservatory among others with Mario Baeza and Jorge Maldonado. After that, in 1987 he moved to Santiago to study for five years under the guidance of oustanding chilean master Oscar Gacitua. In 1992, at 20, he went to Poland, where he studied at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, there his teachers were prof. Wieslawa Ronowska and prof. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydron; he finish the conservatory studies in 1997 receiving his "Master of Fine Arts" degree. In 1998, and for two years Nishihara Toro moved to Moscow in order to complete his formal education working with the great russian master, prof. Victor Merzhanov at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
Nishihara Toro has developed his musical career with numerous concerts mainly in Europe and South America, performing in England, Germany, France, Poland, Russia, Spain, Argentina, Peru and Chile; in such venues as Royal Festival Hall in London, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Royal Castle in Warsaw, Meistersaal in Berlin, International Institute in Madrid, Philomuses Society in Paris, Breslau Filharmonic,

Michio Nishihara Toro is a laureate of the First International Competition "Arthur Rubinstein in Memoriam" for the best performance of Szymanowski Music, and in 2002 he received the chilean "Claudio Arrau Prize", which is awarded every year to the most outstanding chilean musician. He frequently offers lectures and educational concerts for students in Chile, as also has been invited for master classes in the Sevilla Conservatory and the National Conservatory of Lima. He was a jury member in the first "Roberto Carpio" piano competition in Lima, 2008. Among his recordings there are 3 CDs, the first including works by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Granados; second "Clasicos del Siglo XX" featuring among others Debussy, Mompou, Scriabin, and Szymanowski; and the last one an all Chopin recital. |
